Analytical Chemist

We are seeking an Analytical Chemist to join our world-class team in Kailua Kona, Hawaii to develop bioproducts from marine phytoplankton.

Qualifications:

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot analytical equipment of low to high complexity including:  gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-FID and GC/MS), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC),  Automated Solvent Extractors (ASE), Freeze Dryers, Pipettes, analytical balances, vacuum pumps, high temperature ovens, and pH meters etc.
  • Understand and apply sample custody procedures-sample tracking suggesting improvements as needed. Coordinate analysis testing and interpretation of analytical results.
  • Perform analytical development and validation, document procedures and write SOPS, review and revise analytical methods as needed, ensure analytical methods are fully tested for ruggedness before implementation in routine QA/QC.
  • Collect, analyze and report data results, utilizing sophisticated spreadsheets and/or vendor software (Chemstation, Chromeleon etc.) including some fundamental statistics
  • Experience with biofuels/algae analysis methods, biomass preferred
  • Familiarity with Lipid analysis, carbohydrates and C/N preferred
  • Familiarity with CDS – Chemstation, Chromeleon, EZChrrome a plus but not required.
  • Contribute towards a cohesive team environment
  • Understanding of use and application of HSSE and QA procedures
  • Self motivate and believe in delivering on time results.
  •  Good working knowledge of sample preparation techniques, wet chemistry and ability to apply methods using good laboratory techniques
  • BS or MS degree in Analytical Chemistry or closely related filed with 3 years of relevant experience

Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager

We are seeking a QA/QC Manager to join our world-class team in Kailua Kona, Hawaii to develop bioproducts from marine phytoplankton.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develop and manage quality assurance policies and quality control testing and documentation.
  • Create, implement, and audit Cellana’s GMP program.
  • Develop, implement and monitor protocols and corrective actions for HSSE and/or SOP matters with regards to analytical and laboratory procedures.
  • Develop, validate and implement new analytical procedures based on existing or novel methodologies for analysis of raw materials, production intermediates and final products.
  • Oversee and assist with routine maintenance of departmental instruments which includes coordinating schedules and maintaining records for functional checks, calibrations, and necessary procedures.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct system audits and/or quality-problem investigations by fostering effective interdepartmental and cross-functional relationships; recommend appropriate corrective actions and improvements as necessary.
  • In collaboration with staff, maintain awareness and compliance of laboratories with federal, state, and local HSSE regulations. Identify, interpret, and disseminate quality and compliance related trends, expectations and compliance documents. Provide support to personnel by answering questions and providing advice on SOPs
  • Interface with Management to help set policy on product quality and assure adherence to company and governmental standards.
  • Assist department head in forecasting and setting department budget as well as assisting in monitoring and control of expenditures (supplies, service contracts, and maintenance) against department budget.
  • Oversee storage and removal of hazardous waste.

Required Qualifications (Experience, Skills and Education):

  • Ph.D or MS in science-related field, preferably analytical chemistry
  • 5+ years experience in food and/or chemical ingredients, chemical ingredients, or pharmaceutical industry or related experience
  • Experience must include QA/QC responsibility
  • Proficient in operation of complex analytical instruments including GC/MS and HPLC a plus
  • Experience in method development and validation in the pharmaceutical, biotech or clinical area (developing or rolling out compliance training programs a plus)
  • Strong project management skills and ability to organizer material, map process and author controlled documents according to set stands
  • Proven ability to influence and lead people at different levels in a organization
  • Excellent communication skills: listening, interpreting and summarizing information; clear, concise, professional verbal and written communication
  • Highly self-motivated self-starter as well as a productive independent and team worker
